As I said last week, my friend from Florida came into town and we treated her to the most Minnesotan activity (besides hunting and fishing) that you could do: party on the lake with beer, fire, ATVs, and snowmobiles. She said it was very redneck sounding --- and she was game!
We got a babysitter and headed out piled up in the minivan bundled up in snow pants, multiple jackets, and boots. Be ready for some not-so-frame-worthy photos because it was dark out, we were tipsy, and had cold shaky hands, but you'll get the gist.
They go ALL OUT every year on this. A band, a tent, a bar, and of course a huge mountain of trees piled up to go up in flames. Before you shake your finger at us, the fire and police department are there and they've been doing this for decades. Totally safe.
This isn't even halfway to the top.
When the trees are lit the people who organize this carry torches from the shore to the tree pile in a ceremonious type way and light it all at the same time. If you've ever seen a pine tree light on fire you know that goes up in flames QUICK!
We rode ATVs around the lake, danced to the band, and took an unnecessary amount of selfies.
This amazing night of course meant a very lazy Sunday. We laid out on the couch watching movies until it was time to take our gal back to the airport.
