Let's Talk Linkup: Hair & Makeup

Joining the linkup from Erika's blog  talking about our hair and makeup routines. I love reading others' routines because they're honest reviews of products they can't live without.

I'm so not picky about hair products and tools. I have pretty "easy" hair to deal with. The downside is it's very limp and thin and just straggly. I suck at teasing and honestly can't braid hair. I have no idea how to do french braids so I'm dreading the day Olivia asks me to do her hair in braids.

Currently I'm using and loving the coconut water shampoo from OGX. Honestly, I buy whatever is cheap and smells good. ~ $5

When I don't have time, or want to 'poo I am in love with Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo. $25. I received this in an Ipsy box once and fell in love with it. I have jet black hair so not shampooing means I have that nasty wet look. Other sprays leave a dusting which is uber noticeable due to my hair color so this is my 3rd baby.

My hair is naturally thin and limp but if I don't blow dry & straighten I'm left with a weird frizz which means it'll stay in a top knot all day. When I don't have time to straighten but want my hair down, I love this straightening balm from L'Oreal.  Under $10!

I've yammered on and on about this texturizing spray from John Masters Organics. I've gone through maybe 6 or 7 bottles of this sea salt spray. $16.50. When I curl my hair I mist it with this to get that 'straight out of the ocean' type hair. My current bottle is nearly empty so off to Ulta I go!

I'm going to sound like a broken record again, you've heard me rave and rave all about Frank Body products and I'm still obsessed as ever. I have the Sweet Cheeks Facial bundle ($49.95 for all 3) consisting of a cleanser, scrub, and moisturizer. I forgot to post pics of the body scrubs as well. I love the Peppermint coffee scrub and the cacao coffee scrub ($16.95/ea)

If you buy anything in the month of April you have a chance to win a trip for 2 to Thailand!!!!!! More about that here.

I have the Oil of Olay Pro-X brush because I can't fathom spending $100+ on a Clarisonic. Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I've been missing out all this time?? My $20 little spinner works just fine though.

I vary my facial lotions all the time. I haven't really stuck to any one item but currently Aveeno is just fine for me.

Living in MN I'm usually pale as a mah-f*er. Yay for St. Tropez!  It's spendier at $30 a bottle but this little guy has lasted me quite awhile. I don't tan the rest of my body with anything because only Rich sees the non-face parts. He hasn't complained. Kanye Shrug.

I always switch up my masks but I ALWAYS stick with Peter Thomas Roth products. I got the brightening bubbling mask as a freebie for spending too much money at Ulta/Sephora. (Can't remember which place I got this from) I have my eye on the 24K gold mask. One day........

Probably the BEST thing I do for my skin everyday is DRINK WATER! Ever since I was pregnant with Olivia I drink a minimum of a gallon of water a day, every day. It sounds like a lot but it's very doable. I cut soda out of my diet years ago (and I had a VERY strong addiction to diet coke) and just don't crave it anymore.
Maybe once every month or two I'll have a can of diet coke but it's rare.

For everyday style I do the following

I jazz up my eyes and dust some blush and bronzer on.

I wear mascara every single day. Even lazy days. My favorites are L'Oreal's extra volume collagen mascara in blackest black and Dior's DiorShow Lash Extension effect.  I thought about returning the Dior after not immediately liking it but I kept it (out of laziness) and turns out I kinda love it.

It wasn't until a year or so ago that I learned about filling your brows in. I swear it changes your whole face! I never leave the house without using my cheapo Maybelline's define-a-brow pencil.

Eyeliner is a must and I always do a winged tip. - Revlon in blackest black
Cheeks I can go with or without so I use CoverGirl in iced plum.

My NARS bronzer is the absolute shit. This is probably my 492nd thing of this. Color: Casino

When I want to jazz it up and turn my face into a new face I use everything above plus:

Nope, not sponsored by MAC. God I wish..... just absolutely love their stuff.

Primer //

Foundation (depending on my skin tone at the time which is why I rotate between the 3) MAC in NW30 // Bare Minerals in Bare Beige // Sephora CC Cream in Clair

Concealer by MAC in NW25

Not shown: false lashes from Mac using the DUO glue in black.

Contouring: Highlighter // Sculpting Powder // Highlighting Finish

Eye Shadow by MAC in Typography.  with this brush not shown.

Lip in "Angel"

Again, not sponsored. Again, I wish. I love Essie polish. I typically rotate between Licorice (black), the red one, Flowerista (far left purple) and garden variety (the blue).

I'm IN LOVE with the Flowerista color. So much so that I bought it the moment I saw it and multiple times after that I'd see it at Target and race for it only to find that I already owned it, and was wearing it.

I love having black short nails typically but Olivia will give me a very audible "blech" to that color. When I ask her what color I should do then, she always says pink.

Olivia loves getting her nails done too but I use the Sally Hanson Insta-Dry polish because having an almost 3 year old hold still for longer than 60 seconds is torture for both of us.

Not pictured: scent: Amazing Grace from Philosophy.
It smells so clean and fresh and is my everyday scent this season.

  1. Love mac and Essie too! The mac pigments are awesome. If you like mac, you might also like make up forever as well!

    1. Never heard of Make up Forever. I'll definitely check them out
